Building a market-leading group website

The Northview Group operates the brands of its affiliated companies and subsidiaries, including Kensington, Acenden and New Street.

The Group's ambition is to be a leader by reputation in its target sectors. This is well rooted in its ability to provide best in class service, developed from its diverse experience across mortgage products, servicing, underwriting, analytics and securitisation.

Approach

Dock9 has an individual long standing relationship with Kensington, Acenden and New Street having designed and built all 3 websites. The main challenge for this project was to communicate The North View Group story; acknowledging the affiliated companies, the history and how the company has developed from its diverse experience across mortgage products, servicing, underwriting, analytics and securitisation.

Wireframes and prototypes played a major role when planning the user journey; this allowed us to rapidly wireframe the structure of the site through to prototypes. One of the biggest benefits of prototypes is that they provided an intuitive, quick and easy way to get our ideas in front of key client stakeholders, which they can also use internally. All wireframes and prototypes were hosted online, allowing stakeholders to view the current state any any given time.

Modern patterns and animations

With The North View Group ultimately being an information only site; we really needed users to absorb the information presented in an easy and intuitive way - there is also a lot of information and this needed to be broken down, again, in an intuitive way. Designing the site around modern design patterns allowed us to design a site that made users feel they knew what was happening and felt in control at all times. We aided this with subtle animations and transitions to give the overall reading experience depth, aside from the content.

 

Data is our DNA - the grand idea

The existing NVG branding is made up of the bold typeface, Circular and the blue dot, symbolising the North Star. According to science and history the North Star is a well known constellation that is used for navigation. An abstract way of representing NVG as leading the way in the mortgage world. Along with this motif, it was apparent to us that North View Group are very proud of their bespoke analytics tool, that has proven highly effective in improving their mortgage offering. Data and science are at the core of what they do, giving our creative team here at Dock9 a seed of inspiration for the new NVG website.

Data and information can be presented beautifully, so taking this idea, we decided to create a visual concept that would combine data and the north star (dot) for the home page. We came up with the tagline ‘Data is in our DNA’ and drew up a homepage prototype using the dots, and abstract linking strands that resemble constellations.  The idea proved popular with the client, as it linked back to the core of what NVG are about - data and their ability to guide their clients and inform their mortgage decisions.

From here, it all started to get rather exciting when animation came into the picture!

Giving business users within NorthView Group full control of the website content in an easy to use drag and drop interface was a key requirement in the brief.

We delivered this by building the site on the Enterprise edition of Sitefinity Content Management System.
